This second language acquisition class has allowed me to understand that certain factors like cross linguistic influences, the environment, and age can impact and affect the overall process on how an individual acquires a second language or L2. This class has also allowed me to better prepare for my future career as a special needs teacher. It has given me an insight on certain second language acquisition topics, like anxiety and its effect on second language learners that will help me to better prepare for the future. Entry 3 : Interview with Mrs. Moore

Here is the link to my video : Interview Reflection:     For this vlog, I interviewed Mrs. Moore. Mrs. Moore is an English as a second language learner teacher (ESL) at the Katy Independent School District. Mrs. Moore has taught English language learners at the elementary level for eleven years. In her classroom, her students come from a wide array of backgrounds and wide array of levels. She has students from many different countries and continents.   She has students that come into her classroom who just moved from another country, who are at a beginner level and just know how to say their name to students who are at an intermediate level.     When asked what students seem to struggle with the most, Moore said that vocabulary is what students struggle with the most. Entry 2 Interview with an ELL

Reflection:  Link to my interview:  Vlog 2                I Interviewed my mother, Rocio Sanghavi who was born in Guadalajara Mexico. She later on moved to the United States where she learned English in grade school. Throughout the interview it was said that she struggled with an array of various aspects when learning English. Entry 1: Course Introduction

Ruth Frausto's Blog  Video link:  https://youtu.be/BjxipORRAnk          Reflection:      According to Ortega (2013) most children grow up speaking only one language. This was not the case for me growing up. I grew up speaking two languages due to living in a household with my mom and grandparents who were from Guadalajara, Mexico. These two languages were English and Spanish. I do think being bilingual will help me with my future students one day. There are so many ESL students that are misplaced in special education. ESL students are "learners [that] learn an additional language through formal study in school or a university, through private lessons and so on (Ortega, 2013, pg 6).” I feel like I can be an advocate for ESL students that are accidentally misplaced into special education so that they can be given the appropriate help that they need.          When I was in middle s...
